ちょっと前に出た話題の人口設計ですが、肉食などを止めて直接、穀物を食べる食事中心にすると、現在の耕地で４００億人ほど養えるとか、聞いた事があります。
(地球全体の話)
ま～、この手の話はあくまで理論的というか机上のものですけどね。実際に、６０億人が余裕で養える食糧生産が去れている今日ですら、飢えている人達はいる訳ですし。
飽食と言われる日本ですら、Ca摂取が足りていないようですし。

そうですね、まさに「目で食べる」って奴です。
食物があふれている時代には、そういう時代なりの方法論があるような気がします。
食物が足りない時代の精神を単に懐かしんで、神話化してはかえって大切なものを見失うと思います。

面白い実験ですね。「目で食べる」ってのは本当なんだということですね。
食べ残しを防ぐために、皿に少なめに盛るってのを私は実践してるんですけど、結構、効果あるみたいです。この場合は、見た目だけでなく、実際に量も少ないんですけど、そうするとお代わりしたりして、結局、たくさん食べてくれます。豊食が飽食、崩食になるというのを実感します。「限定品」に人がとびつくのと似てますね。

今回のコメントテーマは、「食料自給率と食べ残し」ですが、先日新聞で読んで、なるほどと思ったのは、少し前の「豊食」がその次に「飽食」になり、そして今は「崩食」になりつつあるということです。自分もファストフードや外食が嫌いなわけではないですが、家庭ができ、子供の食事を作るようになってから、やはり家庭の食が大切だなと思うようになりました。それは単に栄養バランスという話だけでなく、親の愛情を伝える意味や御飯ができるまでにはそれなりの苦労があることを教える意味があると思うのです。そういう基本が身に付いてないと、嫌いだから食べ残すとか食料はお金さえあれば手に入るという発想になってしまうのではないかと思うのです。スローフードにはいろいろな意味があると思いますが、食と農についてじっくり考えるということも大いなる目的であると思います。

人口設計という発想は、私にはなかったので新鮮です。本当に何人くらいがちょうどいいのでしょうね？世界の中でも極めて急速に少子高齢化が進む日本で、この先どんなことが問題になってくるのか予測しきれませんが、やっぱり食べ物くらい自給しなければという感覚は、持っておきたいと思います。日本版Ｍ＆Ａが話題になっていますが、これからは、お金で買えないものこそが「本当の贅沢」になってくるような気がします。

人口管理というより人口設計と言った方が良かったですかね。
つまり、日本の将来象を描く時に、そもそもどの程度の人口が望ましいか、という数値があると思うんですよ。
それを考える時に、望ましい｢自給率｣を幾つに設定するか、と言う意味です。国土が○ｈａで、△割を農地として、そこで生産可能カロリーが幾つで自給率×割だと、、、って感じ？
逆に｢自給率｣を○％とすれば、人口は△億人が限度、というのもあり。

４つの分類、整理するとそうですね。ただ②人口管理というのは、どういう意味か教えてください。
世界が国際化からグローバル化へと進化するなかで、「食料自給率」の意味はどう変わるのでしょう？変わらないのでしょうか？こしゃるさんの「自分で作らないことが食べ残しにつながる」という趣旨のコメントにも重なりますが、自給することには、結構いろんな意味があるように思えます。いろいろな問題が見えてくる気がします。

＞報道の背景がわからず読み流していた…
農業や食を大切に思う普通の人の感覚なんだなぁと思いました。情報発信のしかたに、もっと工夫がいるように思います。
＞自家消費分
これは量が微々たるものだというので自給率算出には入ってないはずですが、「塵も積もれば…」ということもありますよね。よく子供の頃、「日本中の人が自分に１円ずつくれたらなぁ」と考えていたのを思い出しました（笑）
＞食べ物の生産から離れてしまった
感慨深いコメントです。昔は作る人と食べる人がほぼ一緒だったんですよね。友人が紹介してくれたマックス・ヴェーバー（社会学者）の古い本にも、社会がどんどん分業化していくことの問題が指摘されていました。効率性を追求していくと専門性と分業化なのでしょうが、そこに問題があることを忘れてはいけないと思います。１つの対策は「交流」かなと思います。また、コメントよろしくお願いしま～す！

初めまして。
食料自給率：
報道などで算出されている背景が判らないので、いつも読み流しています。
昨年より、畑を借り+指導を受けながら、自家消費分の野菜を作るようになりました。04年度は、大幅に野菜の購入が減りました。
大きな生産はできませんが、今年も自家消費分は、生産(自給)して行きます。
こんな人が一人でも増えれば、食料の自給(報道される数値には表れないけど)も上がるのでは無いでしょうか？　

食べ残し：
子どもの頃、母から「食べ物を残すと罰があたる。」と言われながら食事をしていました。私は、人(現在の日本の人)が、食べ物の生産から遠く離れてしまった為かな？と思います。

やや本題からずれましたかね？
指標の類は何を語るためのものか、が重要と言う事で、改めて整理してみましょうか。

自給率の持つ意味は、以下の４つぐらい？
　１）食糧安保（危機管理）
　２）人口管理（上限設定）
　３）環境問題（フードマイレージ等）
　４）哲学（身土不二の類）

※自給率を生産金額で捉えるというのも面白い話です。多面的に捉えるのは良い事だと言うのもありますが、何故そういう事が出てくるのかが興味深い。
現状を低く見せて予算を獲得しようとする事が多いような気がしたんですが。はてさて。

地球の自給力！そうですね。
２０５０年に９０億人、でしたっけ？
マルサスさんだったかの言葉がまたもや思い出されます。今度こそ、ヤバイのではないかと…。と同時に人口を減らす要因も気になります。エイズの蔓延、オゾンホール、温暖化、化学物質や放射能物質による汚染などなど心配すればきりがありません。そして何より、貧困は戦争へつながります。まるでＳＦ映画でみるシーンのようです。

自給率を食糧安保的にとらえるのであれば、基本的には「面積」だと思います。
例えば、平時は牧草を作って牛肉を生産している畑も、危機時には食用作物を作れば良い、という発想ですね。
種苗の調達など時間のかかるものもありますが、本来、危機は突然来ないものです。（発生させないのがベストですが）

そして本当に検討するべきなのは、日本の自給率ではなく、地球の自給力でしょう。
真面目な話、人口増加のペースはかなりやばそう。

自給率ってややこしいと改めて思いました。本来は品目別に自給率を維持していくことが必要で、実際、国もそういう調査もしていますが、それではあまりに細かくて却ってわかりづらい。そこで金額ベースですが、これは品目別を１つにくくった数値と同じことになるので、ある意味では実態を捉えているようにも思えます。
しかし、ヤシャブシ氏が指摘されているように、自給率が低下しているという現実から目をそらしてしまう感が否めません。
何のための自給率か今一度考えてみると、一番は危機管理なのだろうと思います。それで世界共通のカロリーベース自給率を算出してきたのだろうと思います。算出しただけでは統計資料になるだけで、善後策を立てなければ全く危機管理はできないわけですが…。
先月、Ｋ大学Ｙ氏の講演で聞いた話では、いざというときのために「農地」と「担い手」をどれだけ確保しておく、というのが自給率＝危機管理の考え方ということでした。なるほどと思いました。

　国は新しい「食料、農業、農村基本計画」を取りまとめました。この中で食料自給率についてカロリーベースだけでなく、金額ベースの目標値を設定しています。私のブログ(http://www.doblog.com/weblog/myblog/5746)にも書きましたが、金額ベースではいっきに70パーセントの自給率になり農業の現実から目をそらせるもののような気がします。

私が「ぼな畑」を始めるキッカケの１つは、「一隅昭光」という言葉をサイボクハムの笹崎会長からいただいたことでした。自分が照らせる範囲は極小さくても、人と人が繋がれば、全体が光り輝くだろうと思います。国やマスコミが出す答のような情報を鵜呑みにするのではなく、一個人としてどう思うか、時代の流れが速いだけにちょっと立ち止まって考えてみたい。できれば何人かでそういう場を共作したいというのが、「ぼな畑」です。コメンテイターがいないと作れない場所なので、なかなか難しいですが…（地道にやります）。

　自給率の意味するところは、さまざまありますが、出来上がった数字が大切なのではなく、自給率を策定する過程で農業の持つ意味や、農業の現実を一人一人が理解することではないでしょうか。その意味から、国が委員会で決め、結果が新聞報道されるのではなく、このようなところで議論されることは意義があります。今後の展開が楽しみです。

まさに１つ目の大問題は、Seckey＋drytomatoさんの指摘された「算出方法」にあるように思います。おそらく、たくさんの算出データがある中で、一般的なわかりやすさからカロリーベースの自給率が広く公表されているのでしょうね。
自給の必要性は、やっぱり食糧安保でしょうか。輸出国の災害、環境汚染、不作、自給率の低下、戦争など想定される危機はいろいろあり、いざというときどうするか、という備えが全然十分ではないと思います。農地も必要ですが、化学肥料や飼料が輸入されなくなれば、それでもアウトですよね。

自給率の計算は確かに難しいですよね。
そもそも何のために自給率を求めるのかによって、最適な計算方法も変るはずです。
いわゆる食糧安保という発想に基づいて求めたいのであれば、想定される「危機」発生時に同時に供給がストップ（減る）する石油なども計算に入れないと変ですしね。
